I posted previously asking about availability of 40 tooth middle chainrings with ramps and pins for
improved shifting, and got some useful inputs - Specialitiés TA is one option - Stronglight also
have a range of rings with 'Chain Shifting Assistance' (aka CSA)

Occurs to me that it should be possible to take a 'flat' chainring and add shifter 'pins' by
drilling and tapping holes into which small round headed bolts could be screwed, (or even just
drilling and putting in pop rivets). The position for the pins (four?) would be determined from
measurement of a ramped and pinned ring. This could be done on both the middle and the outer rings

Questions....

Has anyone tried this?

Would it make enough difference to the shifting to be worth the effort?.....
