HE MAY CHANGE HIS OPINION LATER.
I doubt I would change my opinion on how to learn to ride backwards
because I have already learned to ride backwards the simple way. I also
recognized good reasons for stepping through less hurdles to learn
skills.
I USED TO THINK THAT IT WASN'T NECESSARY TO LEARN WHAT I CONSIDERED
ADVANCED FREESTYLE SKILLS IF I WAS INTERESTED IN MUNI. BUT I'VE SINCE
CHANGED MY OPINION ON THAT.
We agree here. Please don't interpret my posts as "anti-freestyle
skills." I am working on them also - but in the most simple way (without
starting with other freestyle skills).
IN UNICYCLING IT'S USUALLY MORE SKILLS RATHER THAN MORE FITNESS THAT
MAKES YOU A FASTER AND SMOOTHER RIDER. BRUTE FORCE AND FITNESS ONLY
GETS YOU SO FAR. SKILL AND TECHNIQUE WILL OFTEN GET YOU MUCH FARTHER.
FREESTYLE TEACHES YOU THAT SKILL AND TECHNIQUE.
It is not "either or" senerio. It is a "both." In other words, one can
use what you call "brute force" (and I call simplicity) to learn
advanced freestyle skills.
Then what?
Ultimately the rider gets the same skills - just in a different way.
(I'm beginning to believe that you'd follow that circular logic[1] to
the point of saying that "any skill learned in a simplistic isolated
fashion could not be 'owned'"
Perhaps I will try it "your way" on the next skill I learn. Maybe I will
work on the one foot idle to develop one foot riding or maybe one foot
idle to do backwards one foot. My theory is that it is still going to
take about 5 hours of practice per skill. Maybe then I will see the
benefit of using compound skills to learn - heck, I might even practice
a new mount (before each attempt to learn a new skill) while I'm at
it.
[1] The circular logic comment refers to: "Taking your theory further,
you should *currently* HOLD OFF riding distance and off-road until you
have picked up more freestyle skills - otherwise you will compound the
bad habits you currently have."
