The ACT must set a very low standard for their driving test examiners.
Anywhere else the examiner would check his seatbelt before he drove off.
Any competent driver would have very few reasons for opening a door in the
middle of the road, an examiner should have even fewer.

Anyway, we're getting nowhere here. I'm off to oil my bike (can't ride it
as I knackered my back last weekend)

Jumping in late here... but... isn't there some provision
in some state's laws about drivers checking before
opening doors into traffic? e.g. parked car.
Or are you two _only_ talking about a driver opening
his door in, say, the middle lane of a 3-lane road to
hit the rider?

No, I think the two of us are just arguing fruitlessly about a hypothetical
situation which in reality would probably never take place. Then again,
without that sort of argument, would usenet exist? :)

I think you're right about the "check before you open your door" though.
