Critical Mass Tunnel F*cks

To all cyclists who supported the Critical Mass ride through the
Melbourne domain tunnel, thanks a lot. As a competative cyclist I have
had to put up with increase abuse while training today because of your
stupidity last night. Unfortunately many motorist think we are one in
the same and have been giving more abuse today than we normally recieve
just for sharing the road. Just a coincidence, I dont think so!

Why don't you look at the constructive lead taken by Bicycle Victoria,
who promote safe road use for all users. They lobbying Local and State
governments in the provision of cycle safe roads. They also promote
rides that introduce thousands of non cyclist to the sport, which in
turn educates a large group of the population on the benifits of bicycle
commuting and hence reduces the use of cars.

You riders want a society with out cars, its not going to happen, get
over it. What will happen with the publicity that you short sighted
radicals get, is there will be a wider devide between motorist and us.
This will just make it more dangerous to ride, discourage people from
riding and undo all the good BV and simular groups have achieved.

While I do understand the stated impetus behind CM, I've never been
particularly impressed with the methodology. Really annoying people
seldom serves as a good way to convert them to your point of view. It's
much more likely to harden their resolve against your point of view.

We want allies, not enemies.

Typical. You do not seem to understand that pissing people off
turns them against your cause, not towards it.

I'm thoroughly ****** off by car-centricity, and I think it's
high time users of other transportation modes (especially
pedestrians) got a fair kick at the can.

The worthless miserable fux already do with restrictive legislation
regulating where they figure we should ride. They proclaim it's for
our own safety while it's just to remove bicycles from our roads for
the convenience of drivers.
They kill around 900 cyclists and many times more pedestrians in North
America every year. Ninety five percent of cycling deaths worldwide
are the result of motor vehicles.
The caged scum and their enablers are poisoning you and your children
every minute of the day.
It's already a war and you scud jockeys started it.

US gov surrounded them, shined huge bright lights at them and extremely
loud rock music for days, threaded them, then
pumped in flammable tear gas, it caught fire, and burned them all out
including 58 children, photos are on the net.
ALL the US had to do was sit at burger king and talk with koreash when he
went there to eat.

No, we want to make a Statement, we will show them we are
Important..........

If it is war with the cars that you want, which is what you try to cause
when riding, you are going and have been getting your own hatred reflected
back 10 fold. You got War.

Well maybe, but, you must agree that if you need a four door
auto then the Maserati Quattroporte would look nice in your
driveway.

********, bicycles get wacked by cars and lose, therefore keep all bicycles
AWAY from cars.

Has nothing to do with Car drivers, it is how heavy and uncontrollable the
cars are. Bicycles are much lighter, and more manuravable, and more
controllable.

AND they are caused by the Bicyclist making unsafe movements, NOT the cars.
90% of the time the Bicycle is AT FAULT. 890 0f the 900 caused their own
deaths! look it up! THAT IS WHY Bicycles CANNOT GET INSURANCE.

You continue to feed on your own poison, anger, which keeps you riding
unsafely, and blinded to the truth.

Battle Dipshit - listen for the Car horn loud just behind you, it signals
you may be dead if you don't move, watch for the nudge, the right turn of
death, sliced tires, road tacks, patches of WD40, full coke cans, pepper
spray, truck mirrors, and of course, get doored.

No kids for me, baby and I don't eat enough eggs to warrant spending
that much for a chicken coop.. . . or sedan.

=v= No, "**** them off" doesn't do it. Keeping oil addicts
(and oil profit addicts) from their fix will, though.

=v= Demonstrating our greater freedom from oil (or just our
freedom) does get the police state in a tizzy, though. The
NYPD last month got all overly-militarized because their job
suddenly became to protect the military/oil complex's public
relations spectacle.

=v= If you'd spend less time away from the CAPS LOCK key and
look things up, you'd find that you've got it backwards. Take
a look at the reports on this site:

http://www.rightofway.org/

=v= In brief, a review of police reports shows that when an
eyewitness is present, motorists are the ones usually at fault.
When there's no eyewitness, the police believe the self-serving
testimony of the motorist (and don't bother to do any forensics
that might disprove that testimony).

=v= The latter happens so often that statistics compiled from
police reports make it seem that bicyclists (and pedestrians)
are the ones usually at fault. The more reliable reports show
otherwise. The Right Of Way reports also do a statistical
double-check on the demographics of those involved. Read 'em
and weep.

=v= I should also mention that the "bicyclists usually at fault"
argument also hinges on the inclusion of children on bikes who
get hit by cars. Which is irrelevant to the context of this
(what could only charitably be referred to as) discourse.

> THAT IS WHY Bicycles CANNOT GET INSURANCE.

=v= Since you're posting from "[email protected]" on a thread
cross-posted between the U.S. and Australia, I'm not sure where
you believe this to be true. Bicyclists (and bicycles, for that
matter) certainly *can* get insurance.

There's a good summary and link to the pdf report here:
http://www.transalt.org/features/goodcyclist.html

Oh, what the heck, I'll paste in some of the summary:

The Only Good Cyclist is an analysis of fatal bicycle
crashes with motor vehicles in New York City. It refutes
police officials' claim that bicyclists, not drivers, are
responsible for most cyclist deaths.

Bicycle fatalities in New York City doubled last year to an
all-time high of 35. When this news hit the media, Mayor
Giuliani reacted with a promise to protect cyclists (and
pedestrians) from dangerous drivers. This promise has proven
empty.

Police officials justify their inaction with the unsupported
claim that "cyclist error" has been the "primary
contributing factor" in three-fourths of recent fatal
bicycle crashes with motor vehicles.

To test this claim, and to better understand how cyclists
are being struck and killed on our streets, Right Of Way
obtained and analyzed police accident reports for 71 fatal
bicycle crashes during 1995-1998 (data for 1999 were not
available). Here are our key findings.

1. Traffic-law violations by motorists are the main cause
of fatal bicyclist accidents in New York City. We were able
to assign responsibility in 53 of the 71 fatal bicycle
crashes during 1995-1998 for which we obtained police crash
reports. We determined that drivers were highly culpable in
30 cases, partly culpable in 11 cases, and not culpable in
12 cases. Driver misconduct was thus the principal cause in
57% (30 out of 53) of the cases and a contributory factor in
78% (30 plus 11, or 41, out of 53).

Thus, although police blame cyclist error for three-fourths
(75%) of cyclist fatalities, in fact, driver error was the
principal cause in 57% of recent fatal bicycle crashes and
at least a contributing cause in 78%.
