I have a Trek 2100 Double 9 speed that has Ultegra rear derailler and a 105 front derailler. I have seen deraillers for sale on the web but am not sure which one to buy. Some are braze on, some are clamp on and there are different model numbers as well. Can anyone help with additional info?

I agree with these guys... there is really no need to upgrade the front derailleur... but braze on means there is a little tab brazed (similar to soldering, kind of like welding) on to the seat tube. Your bike probably has a clamp on type…a little clamp around the seat tube. You need to know the exact size of the seat tube for the clamp when ordering…if you pull the old one off it may be engraved on the inside of the clamp…

Again, the 105 is not a crappy component, it will work as well as the ultegra it just doesn’t have the bling factor… and unless you really know what you’re doing it will shift much worse than it does now…
