Newly discovered cycling territory

I spent a very pleasant three or four hours pootling around
the highway and byways surrounding Holmfirth with a
colleague who lives in the area.

I found it a a wonderful experience, full of climbs and
descents both on road and off road. I found it really funny
when my Turkish colleague, who's English is still improving
commented on the fact that I do not appear to breathe on the
climbs...once I recovered from the laughing fit, I added
panting to her vocabulary...

The area has the West Yorkshire cycle route passing through
it and the roads are just crying out for a return visit...I
saw quite a few expensive clad and equipped cyclists out on
the roads and I will have get myself out there soon for
some riding.

When I think of my fitness levels last year: ... then I
would have seen the area as impossible terrain now I just
want to get out there and have go. What a transformation of
mind and body over the past 15 months.

Ain't cyling wonderful?

Indeed. My colleagues look on me as some sort of superman,
especially since a lot are 25 years younger than me and
struggle up the stairs. I tell them I'm just an ordinary
old bloke who bikes to work, but they think I'm some sort
of freak who does the impossible ;-)

Given the chance - yes!

I'd like to grow old disgracefully and become Compo - what
a role model :)

I've been out and bought an OS map of the area along with a
West Yorkshire Cycle Route map that cuts through the area.
Although I think I'll like the cycling - I've no aspirations
about becoming a resident of the area. It'll make a nice
change from the Aire Valley and Wharfe valley routes that
I've been cycling for the past year.
