My every-day bike has a Shimano 7 gear needle hub.
Suddenly the nut was missing.

What is the exact dimension of the nut?

10 x 1 mm. Not a size you are likely to find in a hardware store,
probably need to go to a bicycle shop for it.

Thank goodness you answered this one Sheldon. I was afraid we would get
some dopey comments about squirrels or possibly about one of the nuts
who post on the group.

I had a squirrel steal a nut off of my bike. It ran off,
and I could not catch it. Probably buried the nut
someplace. I rented a metal detector, but never found it.
