How can they be legal? Potentially killing, if not seriously injuring
the innocent passengers of the inattentive, or arrogant, driver. The
passenger of the van smashed the windscreen with his head! The baby in
the second car could have been killed!

I doubt they'd be any less ruthless if a cyclist was following the bus,
or even if a pedestrian or wheelchair user started to cross the road
immediately behind a bus.

It may be amusing to see the car of an idiot wrecked, but is it worth
risking killing someone for?

visually when down. If bikes are allowed through, they need hatching
or something round them.

AFAIK bikes have seperate access. That clip is hilarious, any driver
who can't see ten foot flashing signs deserves all he gets. It's
obvious they are trying to sneak through after the bus. They should
receive the same scorn as a burglar who tries to sue after cutting his
hand on a window he smashed to gain access to a house.

Driving over a bollard because you don't read signs properly isn't a
common or garden accident, it's negligence, the same way as it would be
negligent to drive a hire car through a field or through a river which
it clearly isn't designed to do.

It may be worth noting that when this same subject was raised in
uk.rec.driving, a NG not noted for harbouring anti-motorist views, the
general consensus appeared to be that these bollards were a good thing, and
the people crashing into them were numpties. MattB didn't participate in
that one, despite the subject obviously being of great interest to him and
it being rather more relevant to that NG.

potentially killing or injuring the inattentive or arrogant pedestrian.

It wouldn't make any differnece if it was someone in a wheelchair or a
cyclist.

I have seen in the last ten days two cars embedded in road furniture,
in a 30 limit. It isn't the bollards that are dangerous, it is the nuts

There are plenty of places where driving an unauthorised vehicle is
liable to result in being shot (embassies, for example). A bollard is
minor in comparison.

Anyway, all the drivers in these clips were trying to "chance it" by
closely following an authorised vehicle through despite the clear signs
- the first one even drove up to the raised bollards, backed up, waited
for a bus and then tried to drive through behind it.

Their adult "innocent passengers" aren't so innocent - they should be
assisting the driver in keeping a lookout and warning them not to do
stupid things.

As to the baby - the driver of that car should be banned for six years
for endangering the life of his child. Same for anyone else who acts in
such an idiotic manner - they are clearly a danger to both themselves
and other road users. The sort of people who think the best way to deal
with a stationary motorway traffic queue is to drive into the back of it
at 50mph.

The first scene shows the iluminated no entry signs - now that is a pretty
good indicator of what you should/should not do.
Second scene shows a lady denied passage. Then trying to sneak in
immediately after being denied passage. Der!
The guy in the black monster knew what he was doing - look at the speed in
which he "went fer it". If he had hit that kid in the chair, then he and his
stupidity is to blame - not the bollard.

The 4th clip with the WVM looks fake - It's not raining :-)
