Setback seatpost advice

I'm replacing the standard Campy seatpost on my road bike and I was wondering if a post such as the Thomson set back unit would be similar in terms of seat position over the post? The standard post holds the seat behind the post by the width of the holder. A "straight" post would hold the seat directly over the seatpost, while the set back posts seem to hold the seat in about the same area as the stock posts. I want to keep the geometry the same if possible. Thanks.
