The paint on Belgian bikes is remarkably good. I've got an old merckx brochure somewhere that detailed the paint process. Something like 7 coats. An anti corrosion treatment, couple of coats of primer, paint then clear coat.

Vermarc (concorde) and Ridley were essentially paint shops to start with. Ciocc made the concorde frames and shipped them to Belgium for painting

Yeah nah, it doesn't really matter. Ti will never rust either way. It's the best bike I've ever seen, let alone owned.

Yeah. Sorry. 8 speed left shifter if you were paying attention. I'd always thought it was 2002 born unitl I just started posting pictures, and now I think it's more likely 1999 or 2000 based on the paint scheme.
I do have all the bits to go 10 speed except the cog for the shifter and the desire to lose reliability.

What's the story of you getting the bike? Did you save for ages and buy it when you were young, after looking at it in a shop window for years, or did it just pop up as a good deal?

Bought it from an ex- Green and Gold wearing mtb champ. Don't rate him personally. Pretty happy to have bought the bike from him though.

And yeah, outside of anything I've ever done except bought it, I too was horrified at the state of the chain when I saw it online.

That awkward moment when you review the photos on Instagram your friendly little robot has liked overnight.... to find a stack of racist stuff in the mix some cnut has tagged #llama with. Yeah, er, I guess I'll remove that one from the auto like list!

I promised to buy something (a bit of an indulgence) for one of my daughters this morning. She texted back:

I think I just had a breakthrough at our interclub weekend and I'm feeling pretty inspired right now. I faired well in the Saturday crit and I was especially happy with my efforts on the Sunday handicap. Riding in the same bunch of riders as the last few years and this time round I felt like one of the strongest riders instead of one of the weakest. When scratch came through I rolled turns with them and I made the cut when we turned into a crosswind and the hammer was dropped. When it came to the sprint my legs didn't respond and I could only hit 600 watts but I still made 9th place. After the race I had plenty of guys saying that is the best they have seen me ride in years and I know they are right. It does have me a bit puzzled though as I'm still only doing around 200km of training per week and my power numbers look similar to previous years. I guess my new coach Damian Mason may know what he is doing.
