I don't know the latest beta on Fuji Absolutes, but until last year I've been dealing with them, models 4.0 thru 1.0, since 2008. My impression of the 1.0 has always been, nice frame, nice components upgrades, but the whole package doesn't work together too well. Brakes weren't a good match for the levers, tires weren't a good match for the rims, head tube and flat handlebar a little too low for most people, and a saddle that felt like an afterthought. After the second markdown they were priced about the same as a new 7.3 FX, and I'd recommend the Trek because I considered it a better, more confidence-inspiring ride, even with just an 8-speed cassette. Of course, now 7.3s and 7.4s both have 9-speed cassettes.
Fuji may have addressed the shortcomings with the 1.3. Test ride and see. Choose the one that makes you feel better when you ride it.
