Hi, I've been interested in road for a long time but I have just gotten into it. Right now i'm fencing and I've made the World Team for Canada but I actually reall dislike fencing...so my question is, if I want to compete at a high level (not making a world team, but to be recognized) how would I start training and how/when should I start competing?

BTW, I live in NY and I'm 14 so I'm relatively restricted

thx

Let me preface by saying that I am not a junior coach ... so, rather than give you some advice, let me direct you here: http://www.bicyclecoach.com/search.php
This is the current site that lists USA Cycling certified coaches. You can look in your area or not, but be sure it's someone with experience coaching juniors. I don't suggest that you need to full-time coach, but getting started on the right foot (good bike fit; goals on how much to train and what kind of training; when to compete and what type of competitions) is critical for someone like you who obviously is willing to put enough time and energy into something to excel at it. I would also recommend looking up a local bike club in your area: http://www.usacycling.org/clubs/
Best of luck ... and yes, cycling is way better than fencing. ;)
