After breaking my wrist last week in a car/bicycle crash (see: Biking on the road: evil of all
evils), I signed myself up for a visit to the orthopedic surgeon to have a cast put on. After
probing my wrist, the doc told me that it's not broken! Imagine my joy upon hearing this! Can you
also imagine my anger?
Given: the doctor I saw in the emergency room wasn't a bone specialist. However, you'd think she
could look at the 6 xray pictures of my wrist and tell if it was broken or not. When I first saw the
xrays, I didn't believe it was broken. It took two doctors and a sports medicine "expert" in the
room to convince me that it was.
The good news is... I'll be back on the bike much sooner than I expected. Instead of 8 weeks, I
am predicting 2. The wrist is still bruised from the impact, and stiff from wearing the splint
for a week.
Life lessons learned: Always call the police and get the offender's insurance, just in case. Wear a
helmet, even if it's just a couple blocks away. Always get a second opinion, it can save you time,
money, and hassle.
-John Morgan praising the mtn. bike buddha that I won't miss the cool weather season. **speaking of
which... it was 103 F today... so I haven't missed anything yet**
