Clydesdale's early opinions of the Brooks B.17 Championship Standard

Ordered the B.17 from www.wallbike.com

*Excellent* customer service. Chatted with a knowledgable
individual about my cycling needs, ordered the saddle and
some Montana Pitch Blend conditioner (U.S. distributers are
out of Poofide for a while).

It was Monday afternoon and the Wallington rep said, "It
will go out FedEx 2nd day and you'll have it on Wednesday."

I was thinking, "Yeah right, but hopefully it will make it
here b4 the weekend."

It got here on Wednesday! Not to mention that Wallbike
guarantees the saddle for 6 months! If I don't like it I
can just send it back.

The B.17 saddle is a thing of beauty. Yeah it's heavier and
bigger than most MTB saddles, but it is a beautiful piece of
equipment, no two ways about it.

Hit it with the Pitch Blend a few times over the course of a
day and then took 'er out. Even initially the saddle is
comfortable, and hopefully this will improve.

And after 4 days in a row of riding, numbness, tingling,
pinching, and/or various other forms of "junk pressure" are
non-existent.

The only downside is that the saddle is pretty wide, which
is what my 220lb butt needs, however I do downhill a bit
aggressively (OK, I think it's agressive, others may think
it's grandma-ish) and it's not as easy to get back on the
bike.

I am hoping that moving the saddle back a bit more will
provide a "95% solution" to my downhilling needs and for the
other 5% (real tech stuff) I'll just lower the saddle.

Bottom line for me (at this early stage) is that for my size
and weight, this is the best MTB saddle I've tried.

If I continue to experience similar results I'll be ordering
one for every bike.

Ummm .... Mel Pinto Imports and QBP (both U.S. distributors) both have
Brooks Proofide in stock. Instead of U.S. distributors, the rep
probably meant to say "We are out ..." If you still want Proofide
....it's out there.

Maybe ur right, but on http://www.wallbike.com it still states:

>> MONTANA PITCH-BLEND

>>Since the Brooks U.S. Importer is out of Proofide, we wanted to offer a good substitute for saddle care. We have used Montana Pitch-Blend for a number of years with good results.

Looks like the update is about a month old. When I ordered
they definitely didn't have any Proofide.

It really doesn't matter a great deal to me. I know Brooks
recommends ONLY Proofide, but these guys say the MPB has
worked well for them and it doesn't void my warranty. If
they're willing to give me the crazy 6-month return policy,
I'll take their word for it.
