Hi,

Are there any lightweight, aerodynamic non-shock forks out there for MTB bikes?

I use my "mountain" bike mainly for road biking. In fact, ever since I bought my bike in March, I've been nothing but road biking with it... like 30km a day.

If I had the cash, I'd surely get a true road bike now.

But I like my bike, and I'd like to try and just upgrade it a bit more so it's lighter and more aerodynamic, yet still have some of the beefyness of an MTB to take the pounding of bad city roads.

So far I've taken off the knobby tires and put on Tioga City Slickers (1.5). Resulted in huge overall speed boost, less noise, but cornering at speed is more difficult. As well I've gone with some cheap Power Grip footstraps to keep my feet locked in. I will get clipless eventually.

My fork is chromoly (unlike my frame which is aluminum), and it's pretty beefy. I'd like to get some lighter and thinner.

I am also thinking of getting some kind of aerodynamic, lightweight handle bar and same for my seat post.

I have done similar with my Merida, 1.3" conti slicks, 18mm rims, 8 speed 11-30, bettter rear derailleur, etc...

So when you find the light weight MTB forks, look behind you, I'll be there in the que.. :)

Apparently these guys make the best modern MTB rigid forks... super light too, like 600-700g:

Here's a page that talks about choosing a rigid fork for MTB. They say aluminum forks aren't any good.

You'd think before the time of front suspension forks, people cared a lot about having lightweight rigid forks. Has that spirit totally died off?

My bro still rides trails with no suspension whatsoever. He says he has more control.
