Does anyone know of any bikeshops that will be open on Monday or Tuesday? (I'm located in Essendon) My local is closed till Wed, and I've busted a spoke on my rear wheel...very much peeved as I was going to go for a ride tomorrow.

Dunno, but there's two in Keilor Rd. (Niddrie Cycles and the other place)
another in Puckle St. - I don't remember what they call 'emselves and
Rapido (sp?) near the 7-11 near Essendon Station, other than that Hillmans
might be worth a try.

Failing all that I _may_ have a couple of the right length - measure the
spoke length and post it here and I'll have a look-see at what I've got.

Thanks Dave and Humbug.

I decided to wait till Wed to get my spoke fixed, as I was getting a cyclefit done that day.

Hmmm whereabouts in Essendon are you - I'm near Glenbervie station. Maybe
we should get a BR lookalike going out this way after I get rid of this
bloody lurgy!! I _NEED_ to get some serious fitness happening coz I want
to get a few Audax rides done in 2005 hopefully including the Pushing For
Gold 1200 at the end of October.

I'm near Keilor East RSL, doing the Alpine this month, weather I'm up for it is another question! Managed to knock 20 sec of my PB on 1:20 yesterday to 17:24, but no idea how I'll handle the ride in a few weeks...Gees I hope its not too hot. Any particular routes you have in mind?

Well you're already fit enough if you're doing the AC. I've never
even considered doing it, not even in the year I got my Woodruff 5000...:)

The old Audax tactics come in handy - ride at YOUR pace, eat and drink
plenty and above all enjoy.

At the moment, while I've got this dogs disease, a ride to Niddrie shops
and back is enough to get me heaving and barking 'n stuff. Not good at all.
I'm going for some "tests" on Thursday to find out if it's anything serious
or just an unspeakable lurgy. Just great - a day in bloody hospital to find
out what the hells wrong...:-(

When I'm fit my favourite is a most of the day Sunday circuit ride from the
Linc to Macedon via Romsey and back via Gisborne Station, Riddels Ck and
Sunbury. Around 140km round trip from the corner of Keilor and
Mt. Alexander Rds. At the moment I reckon a circuit out to Clarkefield
and Riddels Ck. would probably level me. A fast cruise to Puckle St. and
back would probably be enough....:)

Well I'll find out in 3 weeks time if I'm fit enough. This will be the first Audax ride I've been on, and am hoping to get it done in under 10 hrs. I've been doing around 100-125 km rides on the weekend, with some hills, hopefully that will be enough. Just have to make sure I pace myself.

That circuit sounds alright, what roads do you take to get out to Romsey etc

Hope the tests come in all clear.

PS The first BR could be from Linc to Puckle :D

Don't try and break any records just do it at your pace and enjoy it.
DON'T take any stupid risks blasting the downhills - Tawonga will be bloody
tempting. LOTS of fun going down towards Mt. Beauty. Going down
Buffalo is a bit of a hoot too...:)

You'll be right - just remember to eat and drink whether you reckon you
feel like it or not. Especially remember to DRINK...:)

Don't sweat the hills - the ride starts and finishes at the same altitude
so you get as much down as you do up. Just stay comfortable on the uphill
bits - don't push it too hard.

I go out along Melrose Dve to the airport and then along the Sunbury Rd.
to the Lancefield Rd. and turn right. The traffic hasn't ever bothered
me even though there's a lot of it. The biggest problem is if there's
a howling northerly.....

I hope the tests find _something_ to explain why I can't pedal more than
about 10km without karking it. Six weeks ago I was doing around 400km a
week, now I'm lucky to be doing 20...:-(
