Yeah, well, that's the problem with basing anything on sentiment. I'm
not holding my breath, but I sure would like to see him get one more
really big result in what is likely his last season.

If you're going to pick a long shot, it might as well be a young up
and coming rider. Then you can look smart if you get lucky. Burghardt
impressed me last Saturday when he counter attacked Bettini, just
before his mechanical.

Current weather forecast is for 16C/61F, 20% chance of rain,
light winds. That will make for a larger group during later
stages of the race. There will be more possibilities for
the win, but as you remove elements of chance from the race
that favors strong teams that will have more riders in the
group.

If I was going on sentiment I'd take PVP, who is on a strong
team and could possibly take a win like Pozzato got in last
year's M-SR.

Isn't the act of picking a newcomer on the basis of sentiment
oxymoronic? I wasn't just picking a long-shot, I'm picking my
sentimental favorite.

FWIW, I'm picking you for a win on Saturday!

Good luck with that.

Why, because I'll be the only one likely to show up when it snows? The
last time it snowed, Bobio and I finished away together and we tried
to tie. They gave it to him. More details here:

My pick is Bill.

Bill will likely be very heavily marked, so unless he just plain rips
the legs off any breakaway companions he may have, I don't see him
doing it. I think you're a more likely candidate, or perhaps Jim E.,
Vic, or even me if the planets align just right!

For a long-shot pick, I'm going with B. Simmons!

I have the advantage of knowing the team plan. 1. We set something up.
2. Bill rips the legs off of anyone crazy enough to follow him.

I'll go with Thacker.

I don't know... he didn't look particularly strong last Sunday. He's
always a favorite for any race involving dirt, I suppose, but he
wouldn't be my pick.

Sentimental picks are usually the semi-has-beens (Zabel, VanPeet), or
someone with a close relative who just died, or maybe someone on a
comeback from a bad crash or butt boil.

I heard the mechanical wasn't. He was coked to the
eyelids and the DS had to rein him in.

I'd go with a sentimental favorite on the comeback from a doping
suspension, but Tyler isn't on the start list. So I guess I'll have to go
with Hondo even though I don't see him being with the leaders after the
climbs.
