In this morning's Daily Telegraph, ace analyst Phil-see-no-evil-Lie-ggett 'informs' us that Rasmussen's incredible (in its literal sense of 'not credible') TT performance "proved that when you wear a yellow jersey you rise to the occasion". That's right, Phil, it's just like the alchemist's mythical touchstone that transmuted base metal into gold. Some of you long time Phil fans might recall that he came out with exactly this kind of bollox when Pantani and Heras miraculously went from TT tail end fodder to near winners overnight during their respective GT wins.
Last week our beloved Lim said that it was up to the talking heads to call a spade a spade and stop misleading Joepublic. He was right. I don't know what Phil the Fraud would call a spade but no doubt it would be something like a linear, bladed, soil disturbing implement. As the Doctor has very occasionally mentioned, reality must never, ever intrude on the great commercial show.

Our clueless Phil is still having trouble with the riders names, thier numbers, the teams (Ras = Sanier Duval), where a group is on the road, kilometer counts, and the obligatory cover stories.

However, Phil always knows his mythology and themes. His voice inflections are emphatic and he remains on top of his Opera Theater gig.

Bobke's career path is a bit more dubious.

Gregers,

The hole in your argument *might be* that Heras and Rasmussen have always doped. They were doping when they did bad time trials and they were doping when they did good time trials.

If Rasmussen is doping, do you really think that stage 13 was the first TT he ever did on EPO? Probably not..

Same with Heras...

Finally, logic.

According to our story, Ras has been taking cow blood and other high level experimental doping agents since '02.

Apperently, it takes 5 years to get the dosage right. Because he sucked the previous years.

Or, maybe, he actually focused on improving because he wanted to win something other than the Dots.

I wonder sometimes if Vince McMann isn't pulling the strings behind the Tour.

How can all these guys compete year round, get tested constantly, get their buses invaded by French doping hit squads and yet only a domestique gets caught a month before the TDF. Could we at least catch someone during the Tour?

How many riders have been indicted in Spain from last years story de Tour?

This surely has to be a conspiracy, no way an organization could be so inept, no way a testing protocol could be so easily navigated, even if the French are involved.

I said it once and I'll say it again, the Tour was created by a newspaper to sell papers. I guess success would be an understatement.

The TDF is a doping control EXEMPT environment. It has always been so since 1978. (Michele Pollentier DQed handing Bernard Hinault his first win)

That's why the police search the Team buses and cars---because no drugs are kept there.

Or how 189 riders can pass their drug tests in 24 hours w/o exception.

Pretext rules. Vince McMahon does control media appearance with Phil, David, Christie, Kelly, Fignon, Jalabert, Ventura, Andreu, Sherwins, Bobke's help, of course.

1998 Festina bust was a mobile customs agent issue---and a suspected rat.

Is this the same Phil Liggett, you know, the one that's a race caller?

No he's not, he's completely wrong. Race Callers are paid to, well, call races.

You said it yourself - 'talking heads' - He's not cyclings version of Noam Chomsky, he's just paid to fill in the void with blabber so we don't fall asleep during the flat parts.

Sure, it would be great if people were more vocal about the issues that grip cycle racing, but seriously, you're just shooting the messenger.

'Frauds with microphones' is a more descript term.

Phil Liggett & Paul Sherwin are not paid to 'call' races. Instead, thay add color to what is considered boring TV. Much as in golf, Liggett recites predetermined themes, beliefs and cortisone masked pain caves, whilst spinning a good yarn.

A little honesty would go a long way to help the fraud that is Pharma cycling. But Liggett has never tried that approach and, in any case, his media employers would never allow him to.

Prepaid TV contracts never tell the truth---instead following a script, just like at an Opera.

Chicken has probably just spent more money on dope this year in his quest to keep yellow. As he said, "that **** is expensive!".

Correct they are commentators describing whats happening on the road, along with, trivial pieces, history bits and some cultural elements.
Simple as that. They will make mistakes it can't be an easy job.

A little honesty??? What by saying rider is X is doped to the eyeballs.
Don't you think they themselves (& the network) would need absolute proof and a conviction of this or get their collective asses sued.
For same reason why when you want the nightly news they always refer to any particular crime as "allegedly" until it's proven in a court of law and then they can & will say convicted criminal.

The same with Phil & Paul, I believe you would have heard them refer to David Millar as being busted for doping and serving 2yrs etc. etc. If you haven't heard that then obviously your not watch (listening) to much cycling. Every time Millar is on the screen they refer to either his skin condition or his past doping ban. There is a conviction therefore proven fact, to which they quite happily refer to.

Even if they thought somebody was dubious, they can't express their personal belief if somebody was doping.
For the same reasons you can't/won't do it on an open media format and put your real name to it. Any chance you'd be scared of being sued??
You want others like Phil & Paul to do things you won't do yourself.

Otherwise when questions arise they stick to the "allegedly" wording or by saying "it's been reported that..... blah blah blah."

Opera scripts are not real and neither are Bobke, Liggett or Sherwin's lunacy.

Opera is accompanied by a grand symphany--so it evokes more emotion.

Never confuse a Liggett lie with a mistake. He merely acts the fool.

Frankie Andreu nearly uttered the words 'cow blood' today, then caught himself.

Al Trutwig continues to be the least dishonest media talking head. The least experience counts for a lot in pro cycling's doping double speak.
