    Constipation. Bad meat? Who knows?

Frankly, your story sounds a bit hard to believe. After hearing your story
of severe pain after several attempts and seeing how you believed the reason
to be Atkins, I find it hard to believe you resumed this diet, let alone
    bringing your SO into it.

Right. Troll or not he's absolutely not on Atkins.

Palmer, Atkins is something specific and what you've described
isn't it. Go ahead and low carb all you like, but please if you are
going to claim you're "on Atkins" actually BE on Atkins. Get
the book and follow the directions. Or just claim you're on a low

with being on a low carb plan of your own.

So my suggestion is simple. Get the book and actually do what
the directions say to do. Really actually be on Atkins don't just
claim it without knowing what's involved. Dr A put decades of
effort into designing it, so take advantage of his efforts.

No I meant the first time we both tried it at the same time, and for
me alone those two times before I met my wife. Today I'm eating, in
addition to the meats and cheeses, low-carb bread, sugar-free candy,
low-carb pizzas, even half an ear of corn...it's all good!

No it's not all good. You should be getting most of your carbs from low carb
    veggies.

Hey if I'm losing weight and my blood sugar is normal, who am I to think
I'm doing something wrong? A simple scan of google has revealed that a
minority of those in the induction phase of Atkins suffered from severe
abdominal pain, and yet this information was lost on some of you as well
as on my wife's doctor. Since ceasing the diet (but still eating
sugar-free candy with sugar alcohols in it), her pain has begun to
    subside.

Perhaps if she stops the sugar alcohols completely her pain will go
    AWAY, rather than just subside.

I found information on the net which led

abdominal pain as a result of severe ketosis, then if my wife's pain is
the result of ketosis she should have lost a considerable amount of
weight over the last week), and then I tested the hypothesis by getting
her on the scale, which showed my hypothesis to be true. As for her
doctor, I guess his medical degree gives him the right to be wrong with
authority, since he told her the pain wasn't because of ketosis. Funny
how each time she and I went into ketosis, we both had severe abdominal
pain, and the pain always went away after we got out of ketosis.

Yes, funny, that. It sounds like you've made your wife into a rat in a

for over 15 years, I can tell you that most Sugar Alcohols are actually
Laxatives that used to be subscribed for our patients.
I hadn't seen anything called Malitol or Sorbitol for years until they

So think whatever you want they are MADE to make you have a bowel movement

no wonder you got stomach pains. Do the low-carb junk foods you eat now
have any fiber in them? Sugar-free candy (well, cough drops the one
time I tried them, but with the same sugar alcohols) give me severe
stomach pains every time, even if I just eat one.

I eat green beans, wax beans, or broccoli each night at dinner along
with a giant salad that includes rommaine, pepper, onion, and tomato.
And the sugar alcohols have not bothered me yet, and I've been consuming
them in moderation for the last year or so.

Well, if you're eating this stuff, you're not doing Atkins, so good luck

    I didn't say I was doing Atkins now. I'm simply low-carb.

I'm not doing Atkins. I'm simply eating less carbs and trying to
control my blood sugar, which I have done pretty successfully. My wife
was supposed to be eating lunch and breakfast but had been skipping both
and then eating a low-carb dinner with me. That might be why she went
into Ketosis. Who knows, but I told her that she needs to eat more
    carbs at breakfast and lunch.

  20. There's always the possibility that this is just a case of not enough
    information.

When you ask a question here, you really have to be specific about the

No I meant the first time we both tried it at the same time, and for me
alone those two times before I met my wife. Today I'm eating, in
addition to the meats and cheeses, low-carb bread, sugar-free candy,
low-carb pizzas, even half an ear of corn...it's all good!

What about your low-carb, high fiber vegetables? Spinach, broccoli,
etc. The first times around, if you were only eating meat and cheese,
no wonder you got stomach pains.
