  1. I've been meatless ('cept for one buffalo burger, dammit!) for over two weeks
and I'm pretty much tired of it.

The thousands of websites I've visited offering gout diet advice warn of just
    about everything meat!

I'm OK with no shell fish or red meat, but pork?, chicken?, cod/halibut?

    Thanks for any info,

    Andy

Have you done ANY googling dear?
You don't have to totally avoid meats:

Low purine diet, not purine FREE diet!
You might end up with an amino acid deficiency which can be far worse?

And maybe even Type II diabetes if you eat a high carb diet...

One might have to choose their poisons.

Sorry, I missed that line before I went googling. ;-)

    Om,

    Did you read paragraph 2?

I've pretty much read all there is to read, right and wrong on the web.

I'm more appealing to gout sufferers for their experience.

I'd try a white, flaky fish like whiting, pollock, haddock or cod and see
how that goes - but only one fillet so you don't overdo it. Just absolutely
avoid salmon, tuna, shark and such. The key, as you know, is to avoid a
    protein rich diet.

Have you played around with pasta and various sauces? Veggie stir-fry?
Salads with a tasty dressing? Asian noodle soups? Fried rice? Ooh, and
there's always corn chowder served with a slab of cornbread. I'm sure
you're bored with potatoes by now. Pasta salad could work. (That's next on
my list for things to make since it's getting so hot and we have no A/C.)
Anything mushroom or olives can be made, too. Stuffed mushrooms served
along side toasted baguettes smothered with an olive tapinade! Yum! (See,
    you're even giving me ideas.)

The only bummer about eating this way is that the diet is full of carbs and
limited on veggies. Less greenery, if you will. I've stuck to making soups
like wonton using homemade stock, garlic, ginger, celery, onion, bok choy,
bamboo shoots and water chestnuts along with wontons filled with similar
    ingredients.

Hopefully, if we all pitch in with a few ideas, you can get over this phase
without getting too bored. Trust me, I've been on this diet since October
last year and I understand your frustration!

Today I went out during lunch break and bougth 4,4 lbs of pork ribs and a
bottle of cheap white wine (1,5 liters). At home I took a big pot and put
the ribs and the wine in it, then I added about half a liter of plain tomato
sauce, one garlic clove, 3 juniper berries, one bay-leaf and a glass of
milk. Now it's simmering lid-on over very low fire. It started boiling
around 2PM, which was about 2 hours ago, I'll add another bay-leaf around
6PM and it will be cooking till 8PM, when I'll have readied a pot of polenta
    to go with it.
    1) spoon polenta in your dish
    2) spoon rib stew on it
    3) sprinkle heartily with grated parmigiano
    4) enjoy
This evening it will be with lambrusco, as usual, but there will be a couple
lambrusco I never had before, so... study evening 😉

    kili

    kili,

I've been on a complex carb and veggie/fruit diet. And a limited veggie
    diet.

Veggies I've limited to celery, carrots, bell peppers, onions, etc.
Mushrooms, cauliflower, asparagus and spinach are supposedly non-nos.

A favorite dish is my meatless jambalaya... TJ's instant organic brown rice
tossed with wilted diced onion, celery and red bell peppers and chopped
    Roma tomatoes.

Also I enjoy ronzoni's whole grain linguine and tomato paste with fresh
    parmesan (OK, I'll suffer!😉.

Lot's of Kavli and garlic humus for snacking.

I miss eggs. HIGH protein, no matter which part you remove, it's about
    equal.

Get tons of water, strawberries, orange (fruit & juice), pineapple (same).

I'm >< that close to the frozen veggie burgs but I'd probably do better
    making my own version.

Also, I've been aching for my Thai satay and will probably give chicken or
    pork a try.

I hate paying the pain penalty when something I try is a gout irritant
food, dammit!, so I'm being extra cautious and I'm still finding out the
    hard way. 🙁

I'm waiting for the toes to settle down so I can do my 4.6 mile walks in
    the park.

Everything I've read on the web just about narrows it down to cardboard
with skim milk! Like sf said, they've covered their tracks. The BUMS!!! The
    lot of them!

That said, I could stand to lose 39.99 😉 pounds to get back to my 200 lb.
    girlish figure. 😉

    Vilco,

Sounds delicious! Are you taking allopurinol to reduce uric acid? I'm not,
yet, just the indomethacin for the swelling as I get past the trial and
    error phase of gout.

    Thanks,

    Andy

My Dad suffers from "bouts" of gout too, but he can manage chicken
(skinless breasts, usually) without making it worse. But I am no
doctor... just letting you know what he personally found OK. Hake
fillets were fine for him, as was sole. Hope you feel better soon and

Is the "Flair Up" still painful or have you passed that point.

If you are no longer in pain ( an active crystal in a joint) then with your
doctors advice you should be ale to return tio your normal diet, (OK maybe
    modified slightly)

For me as long as I drink plenty of water or & dehydrating fluids, I'm OK.

    Dimitri,

Yeah, it's still a bugger and I hobble around some. It switched big toes
    recently, dammit!

I did call Doc for allopurinol but I've got to be clear of the symtoms
before using it, as he said, the allopurinol could further aggrevate
    matters.

If I drank any more water I could be a fish! 🙂

I've only had one bout with gout so far, at least that's what we're assuming
it was since colchicine (sp?) took care of the problem. As crazy as it
sounds, have you tried experimenting with red meat? I understand the
possible fear that would cause in experimenting with something that very
well could cause you a great deal of pain.

The reason I ask is that I'm pretty sure it was an overabundance of
pepperoni that brought mine on. Other red meat didn't seem to cause any
    problems.

Other than scripts, cherry juice seemed to help with the pain issue quite a
bit. However, I would recommend starting out slow with that as well. And
stay close to a bathroom. :^(

    Glasswalker,

As pepperoni brought on your bout'o'gout, too much buffalo meat (super
protein) brought on mine, I'm only guessing. As I said I tried to sneak a
buffalo burg with bad gout side effect. 🙁(

I have been drinking some TJ's "Just Cherry" juice with no noticable
effect. More orange and pineapple and tomato juice. No gout aggrevation
    from them.

    Thanks,

    Andy
