Scary Procrit Warning From Ortho Biotech

I'm suprised no one posted this earlier but this should seriously scare
all the racers taking Procrit and other EPO boosters. Johnson &
Johnson owned Ortho Biotech LP issued documents last week indicating
that:

"studies revealed major complications, including blood clots and death,
when doctors used Procrit to try to boost levels of hemoglobin beyond
recommended levels."

Hemoglobin increases along with red-blood cell counts. The normal
range is between 12-18 g/dl. Doctors were continuing to use EPO even
after patients were clinically non-anemic to boost hemoglobin even
higher - in the hopes that they'd give patients a "buffer". Problem
was that some were throwing clots and dying.

Most every racer will have a natural hemoglobin count of at least 12
and probably more. As they dope with Epogen products and increase
their red-blood cell count to the high 40s and low 50s, their
hemoglobin will increase as well. Their starting numbers are already
in the zone where Procrit use is contraindicated.

Ortho Biotech has warned NOT to use Procrit (and presumably other
products) when hemoglobin reaches 13 or more g/dl. Again, this is
probably the starting number for most healthy people.

They sent a letter to doctors in August but it was just released this
past week to the general public. Here's the link on the FDA site:

Do you really believe they are trying to market something with the name
"pro--crit" to old people? They are using the old Geritol pitch, to push
it. Why are all the resources going to performance enhancing drugs such as
viagra and procrit? Why don't they try to find a drug that cures a disease
for once, like in the good old days.

Perfect example of the a ignorance of some people.

1) Procrit has saved so many lives that you couldn't count it. It is used
for everything from cancer patients to kidney dialysis patients to AIDS
patients. The misuse by so-called athletes is such a small portion of what
this stuff is used for that only a total blithering idiot would talk about
the drug in the same breath as cheating in endurance sports.

2) As for "Viagra", the drug was initially produced as a vaso-dialator, a
treatment for angina. Though the effect turned out to be less that
desireable the side effect turned the drug into the largest money-making
drug of all time.

Even if the drug had no other uses, it would still be a medical miracle
since the $2 Billion in sales will fund the company's drug R & D work for
Pfizer perhaps saving your sorry ass someday with a drug that would never
have been developed at a company with less profits from people who can't get
it up.

For once in you life try to keep your head out of your nether regions and
think about the world around you in colors more moderate than black and
white.

They're over a decade behind Dr Ferrari.

Have the folks at Ortho Biotech done any research into orange
juice?

How can YOU *not* know these facts? You'd have to totally clueless re. the
world of modern medicine to find them surprising.

Does Pro-crit really have "twice the iron in a pound of calves liver"?

Well, you may have to kill the calf early. That's the nice thing about
the young. They start out small.

The link between sales and R&D investment is not straightforward.

What I think is patheic is the way some drugs are marketed. Look at Crestor.
After getting hammered as being possibly dangerous, those goofy commericals
still run where they show some middle aged women running and some guy
singing nursery rimes like Cat in the Hat or something for children. That is
digusting to me. It reminds me of how Dell markets computers with characters
like goofy Steven and the two goofy twins, that guy and the girl, and then
they added another black guy to make him look like Buckwheat or something. I
hate it when they do that ****. Recently they ran one with a dumb goofy
white guy and the smart black girl. Why can't they treat consumers as normal
folks, not too smart but certainly not as dumb as they portray them. Give
consumers a little credit instead of dumb American approach.

But it works. Just as the NRC if they sold their product.

Well then why don't you start a marketing company and show them the right
way to do it? This is a free country and everyone in it is free not to have
Brian as a lawyer.

Dumbass -

That's not just a liberal view. It's a conservative one too.

The average person in this country is ignorant. That's just the way
that it is.

It starts at the top:
