tyres built for speeeeed

I have run Mich Pro Race, Veloflex Pave, and Gommitalia Calypso with latex tubes. I typically rotate the tires every 500 miles or so and have gotten on the order of 4,000 miles from each of the above tires with no flats. I'm currently giving a pair of Vittoria Open Corsa Evo CXs at try. I think at the upper end, they are all very good. For price, the Gommitalia Calypsos are hard to beat. You can also find good prices on the Veloflex. I'd buy either again in a heartbeat!

Now, I have accepted that conti's attack/force and GP 4 seasons have very **** RR, which isn't great, cause they are extremely uncomfortable.

Now, I want to find a very quick set of tyres (to be run with latex tubes) and have heard a few suggestions including Veloflex Corsa, Vittoria Open Corsa Evo-CX, the bloody ubiquitous Pro2Race and conti GP 4000.

These are to be used purely in races, and I have no experience with how puncture-resistant any of these are (My current tyres, GP 4 seasons, seem to be immune to punctures. I still have 2 spare and I have clocked nearly 16000km on my current set) and would love to hear of any experiences.

What I have seen suggests the Michelin or the top Vittorias are good combinations of durability and low RR. Veloflex have low RR but are thought to be less puncture resistant. I am surprised that someone suggested Tufo--widely acknowledged to have terrible RR.

A - Is your experience with the Ultremo with the clincher or tub version?

The clinchers. I'm waiting on the tubies, but it'll be a few months before they get here.

Yes. I did. They need to update it with GP4000S, Schwalbe Ultremo, and velofex tyres.

Is Conti's 'S' compound even available yet?

Just about. I can wait. They are listed on PBK (no stock though). It looks exactly like the Ultremo with some subtle differences. Ultremos are lighter though :D

yeah, and I'd also like to see some Vredesteins on there

Probikekit had some 4000 S but sold out pretty quickly. They were originally listed under the wrong brand, so I only found them accidentally but didn't buy any.

So would I.

It should be noted that there are many others not represented in those test results, such as Maxxis and Kenda, and other models of the already tested brands.

Thanks. The service course are out of the running. They cost a fortune here in Aus and I can't be bothered looking for a blue tyre offshore. I like those challenge tyres though....

How much better are Service Course over standard ProRace2's ?
I think they are around 205g per tyre which probably isn't right, they supposedly have better grip and lower RR while maintaining the puncture protection. Oh yeah, they are better in the wet. And much more expensive.

From my personal experience, they roll extremely well with latex tubes, and they grip much better than the GP4000's I used before. Durability maybe an issue on the rear, but I've got 2k on them with any problems so far.

here in the uk the service course is only a couple of quid more than the standard pro race 2

little lighter, softer compound I think

Good tyre to put on your racing wheels, but not on your training wheels.
