Lance's second book let drop that base salary for a USPS rider was USD$60k/year. Plus all the cycling gear you'll ever need... plus a $50k bonus if Postal wins the TDF, and Lance added another $50k to that.
Your comparing one cycling event winnings with a pro Football players yearly salary. Football players don't make 6 million a game. If you add up Lance's prize winnings over a year, its probably higher than $60k including all the bonus money. Also, Lance doesn't to worry about a huge muscular guy named "Bubba" trying to kill him like pro football running backs do. I read somewhere that a running back in the NFL has a average career lifespan of 3 years before he is either injured or replaced by a younger/better player.Telegram Sam said:60K to win the TDF- 6 million to run an oblong ball (doesn't even bounce right) 10 yards up a field every half hour. Thats America for you...****
According to Lance's book a domestique doubles his salary when he is on the winning team and that doesn't include the "Lance Bonus"Virenque said:Eh don`t be ridiculous! Riders from "trains" or helpers are doing that because they`re paid for it and not because winnings, which are very small comparing with salaries! I`m sure that all helpers get extra money from the team if their leader is succesful!
Winnings are important in lower categories (juniors, u23, ...) where their salaries are very small or even don`t have them..
