- No Flash support, a core component of the Internet. (like it or not).
- No USB. So no portable devices or additional storage.
- No multi-tasking.
- Portability issues. It won't fit in your pocket.
- "The newspaper in your hands"... not a selling point. Those who adopt to technology stopped buying the newspaper for anything other than drying wet shoes in 1998.
- Ebooks. Maybe big somewhere...?
- Portable audio. Really? Problem already solved by the iPod, that really SMALL device somewhere in your pocket you can never find.
- Videos? Handy, but we've all got tellys.
The iPhone broke us away from the 10 year Nokia/etc monopoly. The MacBook broke us away from the clone hardware and the issues that come with running software that has to support a billion hardware combinations. The iPod and iPhone is/was genius. iPods make music easy and portable, even pirated music is easy on it (a HUGE selling point, but lets not mention that elephant). The iPhone shrinks our Internet into something that makes Gary Coleman look like Godzilla, but unlike Coleman, its useful enough to tolerate. For anything graphically/process intensive we accept that we need to get onto a real computer. There is no market demand for some half-way device between the two.
Evangelical Keynotes may create media coverage and consumer interest, but will not convert to sales.
So to sum up, it is shiny so people are talking about it. A number of recent product launches from Apple have been very successful. The iPad will not follow suit.

My missus, being a borderline Apple cult member, had her eyes light up when it came on telly tonight.

I was thinking about it all. You know the whole thing. The best NYE I ever had was in sydney with some irish chicks. The only thing I remember is throwing money off a balcony. all the notes falling away. hopefully it wasnt mine. Even ****** off my nut there was heroic symbolism in it. surely. it was a bit of a does this train stop moment. one of those moments.
