Matthews finished 5th in La Fleche Wallonne this year, the final climb there pinches up to 26%. However that race is a fair bit shorter with about 4,000m of climbing over 200km. Matthews can get over short sharp climbs as good as any Aussie

Cycling Australia are dickheads. Best bike rider we have, in form, gets left on the sidelines. He can climb better than half the team selected.

Also, good move by Porte pulling out before crashing out. He must read the TAN.
