Show Me A Photo Of Your Road Bike

I buy that bike from pawnshop for $96. I trfy to setup carnk size and cassete size for do century never i have do that. I have put 53-39 crank and cassete 9 speeds 12-25. I want found one cassete 12-23 or 13-23 include the 16 and 18. I want see why people say 16 and 18 tooth is magic. Is better i have cassete with more low gears like 28 tooth? Today i buy from thrift store one mountain bike wheel 26" have cassete 11-32 8 speeds. i wonder if i can try on my bike that cassete with the 53/39 crank. But i not think i can try without i have longer cassete or replace derailleur my bike have short cage now. with what tooth is good to start road bike. 11 or 12 or if is 13 or 14 too is okay. and what is best low gear too General wide cassete is okay for road bike?

You have very nice bike. How much you pay for your bike. Because i used ride vintage steel bike with freewheel i call my self newbie in real road bikes. I try learn thinks. What size is your crank and your cassete. Is aluminum frame or carbon fiber. I try setup my bike for do century now i use crank 53/39 and cassete 9 speeds 12-25. I not know if i selct good crank size and cassete size. What is better tight cassete or wide in cashe i need lower gears than the 25 cog. What is good cog for start the cassete 11 or 12. Or higher is okay like 14. i not want lose in top speed. Why some people say the 16 and 18 is magic cog

No the 8 and 9 speeds are not compatible, personally with a 53 I wouldn't worry about having an 11 as I would rarely use it but I would want the lowest possible bottom gear. You are right about 16/18 cog it is good for racing and to keep your cadence even but for most of us the important thing is hill climbing depending on where you ride most. You should be ok with a 28 (check online your mech capacity) but will need a new mech if you want to go lower. The problem with 53/39 is the PCD - Pitch Circle Diameter of the chainring bolts, 130mm won't allow you to go smaller than 39 but 110mm will. My favourite rings are Middleburn, British made, high quality and a huge choice. An excellent website for you is http://sheldonbrown.com/

Thank you for your answer. My bike i ahve buy used from pawnshop. When i buy the crank is was 52/42 and cassete 8 speds 12-28. I put on the bike the 53/39 and cassete 9 speeds 12-25. I have that cassete used. I ride in bike trail have 900 feet elevation. I not know if i select the crank size and cassete size okay. I have crank 52/42 fit in that bike. You think i try that crank or 53/39 is better. And cassete you mean is better i have the 28 or lower gear. I want do 100 miles with my bike after i do some training i do the 100 miles in other trail people tell me is flat now how flat i not know. In the hilly trail with steel road bike i have before and 52/42 and 7 speeds freewheel 14-28 my average speed is was 12 miles. With the bike i have now i try improve average speed. Do you know how i measure the chain length. When i buy the bike the chain is was long. I take in bike shop and cut the chain. The crank is was 52/42 and the cassete 8 speeds 12-28. Now the chain is ,looks long to me. Maybe because after the bike shop i change crank size 53/39 and the cassete i put the 12-25. I wonder if that change make the chain looks long now.

Tks bro... its fast vs my TCR Advanced...

Crank size 53-39 and Cassette its 11-28 (most sprinters cassette size LOL... Kittel, Cav, Greipel)

11-28 not have many gaps between the cogs? Is better cassete 11-28? On my road bike i have crank 53-39 and cassete 9 speeds 12-13-14-15-17-19-21-23-25. How is sounds that setup on my bike. Is be for fast rides and century? I try do 100 miles

well I have 11 speed... 11,12,13,14,15,16,17,19,22,25,28...

You should try with 10 speed 12-26 that was my setup on my TCR and was very good... im still getting confort with the new one...

I'd second that. I have a 12-27 Shimano on my 10 speed bike because the 16 is critical for moderate paced group rides. The 27 is sufficient for all but the steepest hills and the 12 winds out between 35-40mph (depending on your spinning ability), but there's no point in pedaling hard over that speed anyway. I'd really like to upgrade to 11 speed next year, because the 11-28 11 speed cassette is nearly perfect. If they made a 12-28 that had both the 16 and 18 in there I'd be all over that.

True...

Thank you for your answer. My wheels is fulcrum racing 7 i have the 9 speeds cassete used from community bike shop. I not know if my wheels fit 10 speeds cassete. Why people say cog 16 and 18 is the best?

on my bike i have crank 53/39 and 9 speeds cassete 12-13-14-15-17-19-21-23-25. How sounds that setup. What 9 speeds cassete is good for flat hills and include the 16 and 18 cog. My wheels is fulcrum racing 7 i not know if is take 10 speeds cassete
