The Thread about Nothing....

Robert Holden was a couple of years ahead of me at school, and was ace at road-racing from the get go, while I headed into MX, and only tried road-racing much later (TA125). He got a ‘brush’ in the ‘95 TT, and was killed in the following year’s edition...

Well he died as opposed to being killed. It's an important distinction in a voluntary endeavour.
I've gone 300kmh on a motorbike on public roads 20something years ago, I was actually a passenger on a hotted up CBR900, but I had the option of telling my mate to slow down on that empty winding, greasy public oountry road, or at least whacking him. If we'd died I would have said, well hoped other people would have said, we'd died, rather than having been killed.

Happy Anzac Day. Lots of those cnuts got killed.

Woops I forgot it was the fartographer's turn. So she stormed off after enjoying my potato and leek soup, and the earlier songs she definitely was a part of choosing. I took too long to play Golden Earring. Eh.

Ok samples.

Oh my, those sublime cars from that era. And that Repco engine. Now Repco just flogs Chinese **** in its stores... sigh...

Anyway, enjoy - there's some exquisite footage here.

Love it. Try this one too for the NZ slant on the same era. A massive print of a Michael Turner painting of Denny Hulme in a Brabham leading the first lap at Monaco 1967 hangs above my office desk.

Hmm and Cadel in yellow is still behind the dartboard. That's a bit unfair as a reflection of where my sporting priorities lie.

Just finished teaching my second class of the new term, online during lockdown. We're using Microsoft Teams. Uffa. Sono stanco. Quite the learning curve for tradie teacher and students alike. It's actually gone better than I expected. There was definitely some anxiety leading in. On the upside, disruptive behaviour is much easier to quash with a Mute All button. Fark knows how I'm gonna teach them the required isometric drawing skills via a videochat though. My brain hurts just thinking about it.

ACL was spun off from Repco. They make bearings and gaskets and employ 8,500 people. They have factories throughout the world and there is (was?) a factory in Launceston.

Alas, the Lonnie plant closed in 2014 (https://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-06-30/car-parts-maker-acl-closes/5560988).
Looks like the Australian company went into liquidation and was wound up in 2017. :( Maybe someone bought it 'cos apparently It's still going (http://www.australianexporters.net/companyID811.htm).

Still making performance engines in the UK... noice: https://www.automotivecomp.com/services/v8-performance-engines/

And still in operation in NZ.

When I was a kid, a Yella Terra sticker on your car was a pretty cool thing, and I see their parts are still in the ACL catalogues.
