So essentially your a renaissance man? a little bit of knowledge about
everything, enough to get in someone's face..then when your out smarted
you retreat to something you know very well. Punctuation.
big deal ed.
You win the spelling bee.
your a true champ.

True enough, i am a relentless archiver.
I just replaced a dead combo drive with a DVD burner.
Its great to burn 4.4 GB in 10 min. as opposed to 700MB in 10 min.

Cheers.

I would have to agree with Mark ed. DVD burner is the only way to go.
But i also have a 20 GB ipod that i use a lot. so much of my music is
backed up on it. There are 40GB models that would suit you better.

But apparently I am worth responding too even if you have absolutely nothing
to say. But I understand. Others have always wanted to bask in my presence
for the sheer enlightenment I shed on their otherwise miserable lives. It is
my karma that my social inferiors sense about me and want to pick up on. My

Too much punctuation is as bad as too little. I tend toward too much myself
which I have to guard against.

There is a movie by the name of Wit where there is a very good scene about
the use of the comma between a professor and her student. Anyone who does
not think punctuation matters should make it a point to see this movie and
his view will be forever changed. By the way, the movie Wit is a masterpiece
and very worthwhile your time. I highly recommend it to one and all. I think
it is just about the best movie I have ever seen in my life.

I believe in saving bandwith so I leave off periods at the end of sentences,
if we all did the internet would be a much faster and better place

Think of all the bandwith we'd save if you don't post

Yes, we librarians are truly Renaissance men. Our professional education as
librarians did not amount to a hill of beans, but we were mostly all liberal
arts majors and we therefore knew a little about a lot. We were essentially
dilettantes, a term that I have always loved. I hate professionalism and
specialization. To me that sort of thing is the kiss of death. I want to be
a whole man, not a man of parts. The only kind of intelligence worth having
is a broad one - except when I need brain surgery of course. Then I want a
specialist.

My type of intellect is on its way out in the kind of world we are living in
today. I think the old fashion librarian, which is what I was, is on the way
out too. Whether people will be any happier with all their specialization is
an open question. For myself, I would rather have been Leonardo da Vinci
than Edward Teller.

Thats good that you have so much focus in your life ed. I guess thats

Being able to write in a literate manner is the mark of an educated and a
civilized man. It is the end result of a liberal arts education, which
heretofore all men aspired to. Mr. Tom Sherman for an engineer has a
remarkable command of the language and I consider him literate and
intelligent, even though wrongheaded about most things. You are surely smart
enough but you need to reconsider all the short cuts you have taken with
respect to your writing. You could get it right if you wanted to. It is a
great pleasure to contemplate a well written letter, which our little posts
to one another essentially are. I want others to enjoy what we write to one
another too. That is what newsgroups are all about, aren't they?

> A contrarian too.

I only weigh in when I disagree with someone. When I agree I am silent. That
is why I come across as a contrarian. But I love argument for its own sake.
It forces me to think and it sharpens my writing skills.

The ! at the end is wrong, if I were saying it in an excited way yes but it
was instead said as fake sympathy, also the , was added as to connect the
two phrases and therefore a . is also incorrect

I'm no expert on the english language but it appears you know as much about

You are as dead in your emotions as you are in your intellect. An
exclamation mark at the end of your sentence is the only thing that makes
any sense. As I am your better in matters of language, you must defer to my
expertise as I do to you in your expertise when it comes to matters of
computers.

> I'm no expert on the english language but it appears you know as much

about
> it as you do recumbents which is nil

You also need to learn how to edit. Follow my example and you will never go
far wrong.

All my expertise with the language comes from reading great works of
literature. There is only so much you can learn in a composition class. For
the ultimate learning, you must resort to the great writers of prose in the
language. All that is required is that you read them. As I know poetry is
beyond you I will not bring that into the discussion.

No charge! I have given you priceless advice for free. It is all part of my
noblesse oblige. We noblemen and aristocrats are like that. (I'll bet you
didn't know that I was also a nobleman and an aristocrat besides being a
genius!)

Welp, i certainly don't need some spaz in a newsgroup to confirm my
intelligence. i am alright with it, and i enjoy adding to it. We can
go over this whole capitalization thing again if it pleases you. i am
capable if capitalization but i just don't care enough in usenet to
give a damn. essentially when i came here i tried to stay on topic
(recumbent bikes), but you refused. so as a courtesy to you, i give you
my lack-ass web english. the shortened I-DONT-GIVE-A-DAMN version,
because thats what i get from you.

"That is what newsgroups are all about, aren't they?"

no.

There are at least 60,000 newsgroups ed, go find one where you can
practice your english and talk about blowing up muslims.
You have a hard time staying remotely on topic and you seem to take
pleasure cleaning up people's posts. news flash ed. this ain't your
library or some valued place of edu-ma-cation. this is the goddamn
usenet, where apparently you can't stay even partially on topic. so

You are an asshole and an ignoramus for sure. From now on I will cut you no
slack whatsoever. In a more sane universe you would not ever be permitted to
voice your asinine opinions on anything. You are lumpen proletariat and like
the jackass you are you should never be permitted to even open your mouth
except for the occasional hew-haw!

Jeez, I already told him to go **** himself already, but he refuses to do as
I recommend.

We are dealing with one of the phenomenons of the 2lst century here folks.
Because this asshole thinks he knows something about computers he also
thinks he is capable of posting to a newsgroup. But his grammar and spelling
and punctuation and everything else about his posts are so ****ed up that he
ought to crawl into a hole like the snake that he is and not be bothering us
intelligent and civilized people. But he has no idea how ignorant he is.
That is the beauty of being ignorant. He thinks because he knows one or two
things about computers that he is up to the mark with the rest of us. Well,
assholes like him we will always have with us (like the poor) and there is
just no getting away from them.

I will continue to tell this asshole to go **** himself until he manages to
get enough education to post properly. This is not rocket science, but it is
clearly beyond him.

God, how would you like to go for a ride on your bicycle with this asshole?

PS. What really pisses me off about this asshole is that he does not even
have a clue about how to edit a post. I mean dumb is dumb but this guy is
far stupider than anyone I have heretofore encountered on ARBR.
Congratulations slugger (note the small s - which this ****ing moron ought
to at least appreciate)! There are some amazingly stupid people here on ARBR
but slugger is in his very own category of one for being a very special
moron. It is stupidity carried to the extreme - which is almost admirable
when you think about it a certain way. Fortunately for the rest of us, his
types do not run the world and so they can only do very limited damage.

This post of slugger's is just too good to let go by without closer
examination. I mean I seldom have such an opportunity to visit with an idiot
like him. Normally, I only associate with high intellectuals like myself and
so I never get the moron's view of things that slugger so generously gives
to us.

Here is where slugger goes most awfully wrong. When you post to a newsgroup
you are posting for all the world to see what you have written. It is just
the most elementary respect and courtesy to consider your readers. That is
always uppermost in my mind. I know there are lots of idiots reading what I
write (slugger springs to mind immediately), but I also know there are some
very intelligent readers also. I do not ever mean to insult anyone's
intelligence. Slugger, like he says, doesn't give a damn. He is basically
disrespectful and discourteous. In other words, he is a slob!

You and Mark got about as far away from the subject of recumbents as you can
get with your discussion about Microsoft vs. Apple computers. But it was
interesting for you and Mark and perhaps some others here also. So what is
the harm of it? I will permit you to get off topic to your heart's content.
Why not be fair about it and permit others the same freedom that you take
for yourself?

Staying on topic is the province of small minds. Usenet posting, like
conversation, has a natural evolution and we should always permit others to
go where ever their minds take them. I have been adamant about not
monopolizing the subject threads on ARBR. I will normally only post to a
couple of threads. I may post a lot to those threads, but I will never
interfere with on topic posting on the rest of the 95% of the threads. If
others object to all my many messages, all they have to do is post more
themselves.

But let's face it, there is only so much that can be said about the subject
matter of this newsgroup. Everyone here should be grateful that I am adding
some interest and excitement to what would otherwise be the most
excruciatingly boring newsgroup ever to come down the pike. We recumbent
cyclists need intellectual stimulation the same as rocket scientists! That
is what I am here for - in case you haven't noticed!
